My house and yard? Basically wasp central. The oak trees in the back look like they're ready for a big walnut harvest on account of the galls (any ink-makers out there?), we've had paper nesters in my bedroom window before, and I had to foil a new attempt a few days ago. There's a pretty little mud dauber nest outside my office window that I just noticed this week.
Thing is, we've always had wasps. Like, ever since we moved in. They're situation normal for me, and nobody in our house has a known sting allergy.
I'm strangely un-fussed by them. Most wasps aren't aggressive, and ours seem to be pretty chill (for wasps). They just want to keep the spider population in check. Us? We've got spiders. Boy howdy. And spiders I am fussed by. They freak me out something terrible.
The temptation to admit a couple of wasps into my basement is IMMENSE.
How many wasps can I have before they become a secondary pest and I should do something about them? And why is my family so freaked about my desire to keep bees when we're already rocking the stingy insect thing pretty hard?
Wasps!
