Last night was my first official Long Night of the Soul with the still as yet unnamed novel. I’m likely to have a lot of these between now and October, and I’m (mostly) at peace with that.
I got lucky and caught Dread Mistress Chloie online and she and I had a productive talk about some of the things troubling me with my set-up, and what that set-up is going to mean in terms of the overall story. I’ve got a road map for at least the next 5-10k words, which is good. The overall shape of the book is still a bit vague, but I’m finally getting into that functional process of discovery where I feel that most of the words going down are leading me down the right path.
Why no, I’m not a tiny bit jealous of my fellow writers who can happily outline everything in advance before setting the literal or figurative pen to paper. Not at all. Still, this is progress, and the more I work, the easier it gets, and I get to enjoy watching things come together as I work.
But yeah. Doing the thing.
Do you like erotic fiction? Do you like fairies? Do you like e-books? If your answer is “Yes! Yes! Yes!” (and why wouldn’t it be?), then you will be excited to know that Like Butterflies in Iron (which features my short story, “Equinox”) is almost out!
If you need a little something — actually, it’s rather a big something (you naughty thing, you) — to tide you over while you wait, check out the Circlet 100. Not only is it a really great deal ($50 gets you over $120 in e-books, which from Circlet is enough to keep anyone busy for quite a while, $100 gets you enough that if you also figured out how to harness the power of hotness, you’d solve the energy crisis), but it’s going to help make Circlet’s next print run possible. The catch: the deal’s only open until May 15.
Those of us doing it for money thank you.
I just got word this week that the release party, reading, and signing for Well Versed 2010 is set for Sunday, June 6 at Orr Street Studios in downtown Columbia, MO. I’ll be there (in the company of lots of other local authors) to read and sign. We’ll have lots of copies of Well Versed 2010, as well as other books and such from local authors available.
If you can read this, consider yourself cordially invited to watch me do it (‘it’ in this instance being ‘read my poetry’) in public. If you can’t read this, you’re also invited (and I hope someone will tell you). It’ll be awesome.
