Today has been one of those stunning days when I have to stop for a moment think, “yes, this is exactly what my life is like.”

This morning I worked on some fiction for the first time in two weeks. I’ve been in really terrible headspace, and dropped out pretty hard in some areas for a little while. I don’t regret it at all — in fact, I think it was absolutely the right thing to do from a self-care perspective — but it was good to make words again.

Also good was today at Orr Street Studios where several other writers and I did some reading and signing at the Well Versed 2010 launch party. I had no idea what to expect, but took some copies of Crossed Genres issues 12 and 15 and Vicious Verses, and I left needing to restock a bit. It was pleasantly surreal, and may lead to some interesting future work.

Later, on my way to Dread Mistress Chloie’s I stopped by a gas station where I wound up getting a hug and a kiss on the cheek from a really lovely cashier when I gave her my wallet (sans my stuff; I’ve been meaning to replace it and she really liked it, so I gave it to her). I’m currently using a small paper bag to hold all of my wallet stuff.

And then tonight, I walked smack dab into some serious-ass perspective on the novel. I’m moving it to a different city, I think I know how it ends, and (in part with Chloie’s help) I think I’ve figured out how to juggle some of the things I was starting to feel were mutually exclusive to one another. I’ve invested in some foam board and push pins in order to visualize events a bit more clearly, which is oddly satisfying, even if I’ve only got two Post-Its up there right now.

But yeah, it’s been a good day of the sort that I don’t want to go to bed after because it’s been so exactly what I needed. Well, that and I need to make sure I have clean clothes for tomorrow…
