How this thing works:
1. If you'd like to play along, reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
2. You then list at least five songs that start with that letter.
3. Then, as I'm doing here, you'll post the list to your journal with the instructions.
"Kiss You Off" - Scissors Sisters
"Kiss you off these lips of mine / Kiss you off for a custom shine / Pissed yours truly off this time / That's why I ain't just kissing you / I'm kissing you off"
Look, I really like the Scissor Sisters on principle, but this (along with "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'" and of course "I Can't Decide") is one of my favorite songs on Ta-Dah.
2)"Kiss Off" - Violent Femmes
"I hope you know this will go down on your permanent record."
This song has a funny habit of showing up in times and places I don't expect. It also rocks the face off of just about everything ever.
"Killer Queen" - Queen
"Met a man from China / Went down to Asia Minor / Then again incidentally / If you're that way inclined..."
As you well know, any cassette tape left in a car longer than a fortnight turns into a Best of Queen compilation. I used to leave an awful lot of tapes in the car.
"The Killing Moon" - Echo and the Bunnymen
"In starlit nights I saw you / So cruelly you kissed me / Your lips a magic world / Your sky all hung with jewels / The killing moon will come too soon..."
Sorry about this being the short version. I think one actually has to purchase a recording to get the full intro. In any case, sometimes I still lie in the dark and listen to this and make up stories about it.
"Kids" - Robbie Williams & Kylie Minogue
"Kids be askin' do I care for sodomy / I don't know, yeah, probably."
Okay, so back in 2000 or so when I was playing bass in this goth rock/industrial band, our lead singer totally got us all into Robbie Williams. "Rock DJ" was the gateway drug, but the whole album was on flipping repeat for months. I still know most of the words to the songs, and that Kylie is on this one is either a selling point (SHUT UP SHE WAS ON DOCTOR WHO) or just shatters my credibility more.
"Kids" - MGMT
"Control yourself / Take only what you need from it / A family of trees wantin' to be haunted."
Do not attempt to watch this video if you do not like scary monsters with singed flesh, space faeries, or unexpected weird-ass animation. Also, this should restore my cred after that last song.
"Karma Police" - Radiohead
"This is what you get when you mess with us."
Aside from the fact that I always wondered why it never occurred to the guy not to run off the road, I do like the bit with the gasoline.
"Karma Chameleon" - Culture Club
"I'm a man without conviction / I'm a man who doesn't know / How to sell a contradiction / You come and go, you come and go"
My mother once told me that when I was very young I seemed extremely drawn to a) the Thompson Twins, and b) Boy George. GEE. I WONDER WHY. In middle school, I used to do hair wraps that I liked because they reminded me of him. Again, file under things which are obvious in retrospect.
