There’s not enough tea in the world today.

I’m having the sort of writing session that reduces me to wrapping up in an afghan and listening to the Talking Heads. While that’s not all bad — October’s a fine month for afghans and the Talking Heads are firmly in the acceptable column any time of year — it’s hard for me not to do the gritted-teeth frustration thing that as much as guarantees I’ll be making No Words At All this morning.

Things aren’t not all bad. Last night I signed up for the NYC Midnight Short Screenplay Challenge, and this morning I dusted off my National Novel Writing Month halo. These two things make me feel like I’m doing something more exciting than spinning my wheels.

(Aside: is it me, or is the alt version of “Life During Wartime” from the Fear of Music remaster just the original with some severe, distorted guitar noise too high in the mix?)

So yes. Deadlines at the end of this month and madness in November. As for this morning, I’m off to marvel at how I’ve got two copies of The Elements of Style while I fantasize about how this draft is going to write itself.
