I'm listening to my Bowie station on Pandora today at work. The thing I don't entirely get about Pandora is how very little it plays the actual artist you're asking it to play. In fact, it seems perversely keen on never playing anything I thumbs-up. I've therefore sort of given up on admitting to liking anything. The net result is that I'm getting a lot of Talking Heads, Queen, and Led Zeppelin with occasional fits of Bowie and The Clash. This isn't a bad thing exactly, but when I'd like to listen to David Bowie, I'd sort of like to hear him, no matter how much I also like "Under Pressure" and "Rock The Casbah."

Need evidence that I'm a tremendous dork? The doodles I do in meetings are an excellent indicator. I just stumbled upon a real gem from last summer, and can't not share:

Look, I'd say I'm not proud, but I sort of am. I should see if I can find anything from my "box of puppies" period.

I've seen several people link to this graph comparing health care spending to life expectancy, but want to propagate it further. It shows quite clearly that we spend an astronomical amount for less care and shorter lives than countries Republicans try and scare us with when we ask for a public option. It's rekindling my desire to move to Canada, France, or the UK. If only I were less poor, American, and undereducated. As Morrissey once said, "I still cannot speak French."

[livejournal.com profile] sparkindarkness makes remarkably clear, obvious points about how ridiculous the 'but kids shouldn't learn about any sexuality' argument actually is in practice.

Not quite safe for work: NH state representatives have weird beliefs about teh buttseks. See Also: need for comprehensive sexual education in public schools, demonization of LGBTQ people via the dumb.
