bodlon: (who - Rory is fucking ACES)

The up-shot of today: I got lots of sleep and spent much of my day covered in dogs.

The downside: everything else.

Regardless, it won’t matter how good or bad I feel in the morning. I’m going to work. Have to. There are things which need doing, and I can only spend so much time holed up at the house feeling rubbish before I start to go a little crazy.

~*~

- Today is World AIDS Day. Please take some time to educate yourself about HIV, how to protect yourself, and the difficulties HIV positive individuals face.

- Hey look! An interview about Dogboy & Justine! Which, incidentally, you can still help support by pledging here.

- This Craig Ferguson clip about Doctor Who made my night.

- I have no children, nor any immediate plans to become a parent, but if I were a parent this book about sexuality would be high on my to-buy list.

- You’re never more than 3 feet away from a spider. OR ARE YOU?

- Walking Dead showrunner Frank Darabont has dismissed the show’s entire writing team. (FYI: don’t click that link unless you’re ready for a face full of scary zombie.) Now, I’m not going to lie. When I hear that things I like are going to be recruiting writers, there’s a part of me that thinks, “Yes! I would like to do that!” In this case, that part is…well, let’s just say it’s a good size and leave it at that. Ahem.

- According to Linda Kirkman, polyamory is the the new gay. It’s interesting, but I’m not a fan of “[minority] is the new [minority]” constructions. Poly is not the new gay. Gay is still busy being gay, which is to say it is still most certainly still not the new black on account of black still being busy being black, etc. Argh.

- I’m not sure how alarmist this statement is, but I am beginning to wonder if our generation is possibly witnessing the end of freedom of movement within the United States.

- Bees love maraschino cherry juice. Unfortunately, when they overindulge, they appear to produce The Tussin.

- Hey, remember that DADT report that McCain and the GOP wanted before congress could move on DADT? Yeah, it’s in. It says that 7 in 10 soldiers are pretty much A-OK with gays and lesbians serving alongside, and that repealing DADT could happen immediately with no real change in combat readiness. That means the courts AND the military favor repeal. What’s Congress waiting for again? Oh. Right. The GOP’s delicate sensibilities. (Memo: now would be a good time for you to contact your representatives and tell them you favor repeal before the legislative session ends.)

Hrm. That poly article reads very heavily as 'look what I, part of the majority, just discovered! Look at these wee people and their cute customs. They have history, and have been around for a while, but I've just found them, and these are the bullet points I find palatable.'

"I do not wish to diminish or underplay the ongoing challenge presented by homophobia, and the need for equality for same sex relationships in many aspects of law, but same sex attraction is now accepted as mainstream. It is not hard to find scholarly studies of all aspects of same sex relationships, and everyday media mostly treats homosexuality as a normal variation of the human condition. There are public campaigns against homophobia, and quality sexuality education makes no assumptions about sexual orientation and teaches respect for difference."

What world does she live in? Some of that stuff is true (scholarly studies, mostly) but there's blanket statements all through the article about stuff gay people "can" do now that simply aren't true in a lot of places. :/

And yet, the Washington Post's article on DADT apparently opened with reasons people in the military don't want it repealed and quoted three anti-repeal dudes before finally getting to any pro-repeal stuff halfway through the article. The maths, they do not understand it.
