There is snow on the ground. Benjamin Franklin is a jerk.
If you're looking at this at Dimlight (instead of via LJ or Dreamwidth), you'll see that this morning was very productive. I've done some necessary clean-up, applied a new theme that better meets my needs, created a page where folks can find (and buy) the things I have in print, etc. I know that some of my delight with it is almost certainly enjoying the shiny newness, but eh. I'll take what I can get.
And then I did today's Torchwood rewatch, and then went out and got some other things accomplished, and then there was Earth Hour, and now it is after 11 PM and I haven't got any writing done yet today. Er.
So yes. Tonight's plan was to try and do a 1000 word sprint, and this is a worthy goal, especially because I have to hit my capstone HARD tomorrow. Like, hard enough future degree candidates will feel it.
Just watch. The thing I'm trying to figure out (and which is stopping me from forging ahead) will come to me tomorrow when I'm supposed to be doing school work. Because that's how writing happens.
And now, bed.
- Eman al-Obeidy, a Libyan woman who says she was held against her will and raped by Qaddafi's soldiers, was dragged away by Qaddafi's security team when she got into a room full of foreign journalists. Those journalists who tried to protect her were assaulted so that she could be dragged away. One of those journalists was also removed from the premises and taken to the border.
- Yet another book I think I'd quite like to read. Fifty-seven academics just punched the air.
- I keep forgetting to post that Paul Cornell is growing a beard for Lent as a fundraiser for Shelter, a UK charity. I have donated, and possibly made a silly comment, to which the man himself has replied that he "absolutely, definitely, promise[s] not to let the beard eat [me.]" This has not reduced my overall vigilance level. I AM ONTO YOU, BIZARRO PAUL CORNELL. (But really, go donate.)
- Over at Smart Bitches, the Jane Austen Drinking Game, complete with rules and video.
- Behold, an interesting essay at Feministe about the right to "fuck up," and how the anti-choice movement is more or less oriented in ways that require us all to be perfect at all times with no margin for error. It's certainly an angle worth considering. As an individual, I tend to believe compassion exists to cushion us when we make mistakes, or when things go awry. To pretend that neither of these things are situation normal in this human life is, frankly, not a realistic view.
- At i09, an interview with Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer about the new series of The Venture Bros. turns into an interview about slash fiction instead. I met Doc Hammer in passing at Dragon*con a couple of years ago and had a deeply weird, brief conversation that involved my personal terror of ever being in the same space with David Bowie (long story, ridiculous, probably funnier if I'm drinking). This interview is at least as good as that, and pretty much cements my love for the Venture/Astrobase team.
