bodlon: (cumberbatch - with book)

Some weeks I realize just how incredibly badass my friends are. This is one of those weeks. Case in point:

- My friends Racheline and XT are in TIME Magazine. They're two of the subjects of an article about transformative works. The piece itself is a little basic, and I'd have liked to see Grossman talk more about authors who are sympathetic to (or even in favor of) fanworks, but it's really fantastic and kind overall.

- My friend Jean just let me know that a comics project she's involved with, Womanthology, is raising funds on Kickstarter. Womanthology is what it sounds like: a massive, hardbound anthology, chock full of amazing work by women working in comics. There are some massive names on this project, and some really brilliant emerging artists as well. This thing is going to be incredible.

- Some mornings I don't know that I have a lot to contribute to humanity beyond linking to a photograph of a pipe-smoking dog wearing a top hat and monocle. You're welcome.

- If you need more animal zaniness, perhaps this macaque stealing a camera and taking photographs of himself will suffice.

- Going meatless shrinks your carbon footprint at least as much or more than going local. Note, obviously, that this is not an either/or thing, and a bit of both columns is even better still.

- This article about the effects of disposable plastics on the oceans (and thus global ecology and food supply) should actively concern anyone who eats food. It's kind of a big deal.
