bodlon: (cumberbatch - with book)

First, some housekeeping:

- Thank you to everyone who kept it thoughtful and civil with the buttons post. There were some missteps, but on the whole I am feeling more or less positive about this whole “faith in humanity” thing people keep telling me about.

- This is old news, but remember that post about the incident at the Buffy sing-along? There’s a bit of follow-up over at Letters From Titan (er, scroll past the bit that’s about the button post) that adds some perspective to the situation. Short version: the situation was different in some ways from how it appeared, but the fact still remains that the “Shut-up, Dawn!” thing is problematic and makes people uncomfortable.

I’m not sure that “energized” is the right word to use on any day that I’ve gotten out of bed at 4:30 AM on purpose, but considering that this is the first day back on my morning routine? It’s certainly not a bad one.

Relieved might be an even better one. For the first time in two months, I’ve looked at my writing load and felt like I had the time to handle it. Night classes are convenient in their way, but they made it impossible to do my literary early bird act, which cut into my writing (and my sanity) big-time. It’s good to be back. Just, ah, pay no attention to the case of sugar free Red Bull behind the curtain.

And in case you needed more evidence that this whole “creativity” gig is a clear manifestation of some derangement on my part, have a context-free glimpse into some of the more material aspects of my process:

Believe me when I say that knowing what that’s all about doesn’t make it any less ridiculous.

And now, some links:

- The future according to Corning. After meeting my first Kinect last night, and having a touch-screen device that lives in my pocket, this doesn’t seem particularly outrageous to me. Well, except for the fact that it’s all completely pristine. Corning’s future had better be brought to us by Windex.

- Via coyotegoth, an opening credit sequence for Doctor Who S5 in the style of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Hello, ridiculously satisfying fannish convergence!

- It seems obvious that basic necessities like sanitation would be a problem in the parts of New Zealand that are reeling after the most recent quake, but logic doesn’t do reality justice.
